Pediatric massage
is a therapy that works to relieve physical and emotional
tension in children. The Lavallee Centre is located in a
community that home to one of the largest military bases in
the Canadian Forces, and thus the effects of soldier
deployment are very real.
Massage has been
effective as a relaxation therapy for children. In addition,
it has been shown to be effective in treating children who
have been diagnosed with autism, attention deficit disorder
(ADD), cerebral
palsy, learning difficulties and emotional stress.
All of massage
therapy, whether delivered to adults or children, focuses on
wellness and healthy living. Pediatric massage has helped
with anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, and has helped
increase the ability to focus in children with attention
problems. The Lavallee Centre can also teach parents how
they can apply massage techniques to benefit their child at
home.
Included in their commitment
to child health, The Lavallee Centre is holding an annual
massage event in support of the Child Poverty Action Network
- an organization that operates through The Phoenix Centre
in Pembroke.
